Founder and President:  Richard Hammen

Rich is the lead inventor on two fundamental granted patents & patent applications pending for technology being commercialized by Chela Tech.  He received his BS in Chemistry from Stanford University where he helped found the cycling club, leading to his membership on the US National Cycling Team, including competing in World Championships, the Pan American Games, and other International Level Cycling Events.  He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin , a post-doc at UCLA,  & then conducted research at the Molecular Biology Institute at UCLA, Los Angeles.  Subsequently he worked as a Molecular Biologist at SRI International & at the California Institute of Technology, leading to a Director position at Vestar Research (now NEXSTAR, NASDAQ).  He later founded & was President of  ChromatoChem & was a Faculty Affiliate at the University of Montana . He founded ChelaTech in 1996 & developed innovative separation technology funded by reseach grants from NIH, NSF, & EPA.

Technical Advisor: John Hammen

John works with Chela Tech to develop nanotechnology enabled chemistries for targeted metals recovery applications.  He has completed 3 years cumulative research experience at the company.  He is a co-author on the two issued fundamental patents for the technology being commercialized by Chela Tech.  He is a National Science Foundation Fellow, 2003-2006 at Stanford University , where he has completed three years of work towards his Doctoral Thesis (Advisor – Prof. Barry Trost, Stanford University ) Development and Diversification of Dinuclear Metal Catalysts for Variants of the Asymmetric Aldol Reactio.  

Technical Advisor: Mark A. Valentini, Ph.D.

Dr. Valentini has a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin , Madison , a M.S. Chemistry from San Francisco State University , and a B.A in Biochemistry from the University of California , Berkeley .  He has 20+ years of professional experience in the field of Chemistry, including managing principal of Analytical Sciences, LLC; Vice President & General Manager Brown & Caldwell Analytical; Group Vice President of PACE Incorporated; Laboratory Director for Dames & Moore;  and Senior Research Scientist with Allied Signal Chemical Company.   Dr. Valentini has provided expertise to a wide range of projects requiring leading-state-of-the-art analytical chemistry services since founding Analytical Sciences, including to 3M and Intel.

Technical Advisor: Douglas C. Parker

Doug has a B.A. Geology (Honors) from the University of Montana and an M.S. in Earth Science (Honors) from the University of Waikato ( New Zealand ).  He is currently Executive Vice-President and Principal Soil Scientist/Hydrogeologist for www.hydrometrics.com  in Montana , a company that provides cost-effective and practical scientific and engineering services for the industrial, commercial and municipal sectors in the United States and selected foreign markets.  Prior experience includes Manager of Northwest Operations, ASARCO Incorporated , with a primary focus on mining permits & environmental issues, Manager of Permitting for Noranda Minerals, Hydrogeologist/Manager of Earth Sciences Division for Hydrometrics, Hydrologist/Environmental Scientist for Westech, all in Montana, and  Field Geologist for the Waipa County Council -  TeAwamutu, New Zealand.    His professional affiliations include the Montana Water Pollution Control Advisory Council (Governors Appoinment), Montana TMDL Advisory Council, (Governors Appointment), Coeur de Alene Basin Commission (Governors Appointment), National Groundwater Association (Certified Ground Water Professional), American Society for Surface Mining and Reclamation, and the Northwest Mining Association

Business Advisor: Joel Serface

Joel invests into the convergence of nanotech, life sciences, energy, environmental, and information technologies. Based in Palo Alto , California , Joel interfaces with the venture community, research universities, and corporations to identify disruptive technologies that can provide the foundation for world-class companies. Joel actively advises entrepreneurs and researchers in creating new companies as well as several venture funds. Prior engagements include a Partner at Eastman Ventures, a Director at Sierra Ventures, building the software practice at M&A boutique Alliant Partners, developing Sun Microsystem's first venture programs, and predicting the growth of SCM & CRM sectors at AMR Research. Joel served on the Board of Advisors for the California Nanosystems Institute, the California Blue Ribbon Commission on Nanotechnology, and Nanotechnology Initiatives in Colorado & Texas.  He has an M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management & a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas.
